New Art Spaces

This one turned out pretty well. The RIBA ran a competition seeking bold ideas for new art spaces in London. Ours was to reclaim the space occupied by one of the city's crummiest rail lines, creating a new tram, pedestrian and cycle route entirely dedicated to art. We were shortlisted and exhibited at The National Theatre, and the Tate Blog had this to say:

"

Arts Space Vs Infrastructure by Hatch is a proposal I found particularly appealing, as it suggests intervening with a space I know all too intimately: the miserable London Overground route formerly known as Silverlink. In fact, Hatch's design involves scrapping the train line, which runs from Stratford in East London to Richmond in the west, and replacing it with a paved tramway - entire dedicated to art. I have to agree with the designers who term the current trains 'junk space' and look forward to a daily commute enjoying their programme of "linear storylines, specific local installations, tram-stop interventions and performance art pieces."
